Are Veneers Permanent

Are Veneers Permanent?

So you have made up your mind to give your smile a makeover with veneers, but before taking the plunge, you want to know if they are a permanent solution. Well, the answer is yes! Veneers are generally a permanent solution. Depending on how well you look after them, veneers can last between 10-15 years.

Take Care of Your Veneers

While veneers might be designed to last for ten years or more, it’s worth noting that the longevity of your veneers will rely heavily on how well you take care of them!

To ensure that your veneers remain in good condition and last for many years to come, here are five tips to keep in mind–courtesy of our restorative care specialists here at Colonial Drive Family Dentistry:

  1. Brush Twice a Day For Two Minutes

A good oral hygiene routine is essential for keeping your veneers in top condition and making them last longer. Be sure to brush twice a day for two minutes each time with a soft-bristled toothbrush. If you brush too hard, it can wear down the veneers and cause damage over time.

Additionally, make sure the toothpaste you use does not contain ingredients that can damage your veneers.

  1. Floss At Least Once a Day

In addition to brushing, flossing at least once a day is also important for keeping your veneers clean and healthy. Flossing removes any plaque buildup in between the teeth, which can cause discoloration or staining to your veneers.

  1. Don’t Use Your Teeth As Tools

It’s easy to forget that your teeth aren’t meant to be used as tools! However, it’s important to remember that using your teeth as tools—such as opening packages or bottles—can put unnecessary stress on your veneers and cause them to break or chip. So try not to use your teeth when there are better tools available!

  1. Wear A Mouthguard While Participating In Sports

If you have veneers and love participating in sports, it's advisable to invest in a sturdy mouthguard. A mouth guard, as the name suggests, will provide an extra layer of protection for your veneers while engaging in any kind of sport or physical activity like basketball, tennis, etc.

There are various types of mouthguards, and depending on what type of sport you're participating in, some may be better suited than others. It's important to try different ones if needed until you find the one that feels comfortable and provides optimal protection while allowing you to play with ease.

  1. Minimize Staining Foods and Smoking

Although porcelain veneers are stain-resistant, certain foods and drinks like coffee, tea, red wine, and soft drinks can dull the whiteness of the veneer over time if not taken care of properly. Additionally, smoking should be avoided since it will cause discoloration on both natural and porcelain teeth over time.

As you can see, making sure that your veneers last longer does not have to be complicated; just follow the tips highlighted above and you’ll be well on your way to enjoying your flawless smile for years to come.
